Easter Bunnies

Bridget excited the Easter Bunny brought her a new watch!

Meg hamming it up with her Miami friend, Maggie.
Easter at our house was wonderful this year.  Meg was able to make it home to spend the weekend with B and she even brought home her college friend, Maggie. What a wonderful weekend full of Easter goodness!

Friday Funny: Toast

I know, right? How can toast be funny? Just check out this site where the artist makes masterpiece replicas out of toast.  You can find Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothco, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Salvador Dali, to name a few.  You have to check out Edvard Munch's The Scream.  Amazing the creativity! I think Magritte's my fave, although Frida Kahlo is equally as funny.

Travel Thursday: Ireland

This summer, my extended family will be spending a wonderful week in the beautiful, bucolic setting of Ireland.  We spent a couple weeks visiting Ireland, England and Scotland over the holidays in 2002-2003 and it was an amazing experience.  Meg even rode the Hogwarts Express (or what the Hogwarts Express was modeled on).  This year, B will get to experience Dublin, Cork, Galway and anywhere else we stumble upon.

As you can see from these pictures, Ireland really is breathtaking to behold.

Workout Wednesday: Back to the Basics

So I got on the scale today.  Let me just tell you, processed food in the form of cookies and other little nuggest of craptastic tasting goodness catch up to you.  I am 12 pounds over my half marathon weight.  Now mind you, this is 12 pounds over my NORMAL half marathon weight.  That number still doesn't make me slim...it just means I'm dragging less arse around.

So it's back to the basics.  I completed my first weekday 3-mile run last night.  For the rest of the week, I will pass on processed stuff.  I am going to make a diligent effort to eliminate pasta and bread this week and stick to protein and vegetables.

I can't commit to full-blown workout sessions as my work life and family life have taken on a new meaning of busy. Plus, this weather in Cleveland has been anything but kind to the outdoorsy types.  Instead, I will try to do leg lifts, calf raises, squats and lunges while I'm waiting for my coffee to brew in the morning.  By my estimation, I should be able to squeeze in 20 leg lifts (10 per side), 20 calf rasies, 20 squats and 20 lunges before pouring my first cup.

It's a start.  Care to join me in getting back to the basics?

The Irony of It

While waiting for our table, I snapped this awesome picture of B in a phone booth while playing on the iPhone.  I loved the irony of this picture! Kids her age will probably never search for a quarter to make a phone call. Amazing.

To Spice Up Your Dinner

Thai Peanut Sauce- 1 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp sesame seeds.  Marinate chicken breasts, tofu or a nice mix of veggies in sauce, bake.  You can even add a little sriracha, if you need that added kick. Serve with rice or, if you feel daring and want something less boring than rice, try quinoa or orzo. Great, simple, yummy dinner - for the carnivore or the vegetarian.

And maybe this dinner will warm you up from all the mayhem caused by Mother Nature today.  I mean, seriously, did we NEED more snow?!
