Running and Biking

What a great week so far! I completed an 11-mile long run on Monday. Should have knocked it out over the weekend, but too many Memorial Day activities prevented a Saturday or Sunday run. No worries - Monday worked just fine. Rest day Tuesday, then a hot, humid 3-miler during lunch on Thursday. Hello Summer - did we even see Mr. Spring this year? Wednesday and Friday brought some great cycling weather and I took advantage of it by biking to work. As I was carrying Violet (my bike) up the stairs at work, I actually had someone ask me if I rode that into work? The smart ass in me just wanted to reply, "No, it's Show & Tell week. Today we're on the letter B for bike!" The Metroparks is so zen in the morning. By the time I reached my office, I was in the best frame of mind. Beautiful, tranquil, and I could hear so much - the water rushing, squirrels dashing around the leaves and trees, and just enjoy the silence as well.

Sunday brings another long run of hopefully 12 miles. This training for a June half marathon certainly caught me off guard. I thought I had more time. Is it just me or do the weekends tick away far too fast anymore?! I have a 5k Girls with Sole race in the morning in which I'll be pushing Bridget in the jogging stroller. Doing so serves two purposes - it eliminates the hopes of a PR (what a relief there!) and it gives me quality time chatting with my 4-year-old while running. I'm going to try to complete most of my long run BEFORE the 5k (and before the spike in temps), then muddle through the race with kid in tow. With any luck, total running miles should equal 12 tomorrow. Pancakes smothered in syrup are going to taste soooooo good afterwards!

Oh, and let's not forget, I'll be celebrating my 7th anniversary with my better half! Can't wait till he sees the cool anniversary gift I have in store!

Have a wonderful weekend running, biking, swimming or just being still!

Week in Review: 5/3-5/9

Happy Mother's Day to everyone. I am thrilled that I got two new CLE shirts (Cleveland's a Plum is such a cool one) so I can "represent" while knocking out the remaining states. Yeah! Good week of running and nice mix of workouts as well as two of the best partners ever - B and Meg!

Monday-rest.

Tuesday - 5 miles. 1 mile warmup & cool down. 5x800m at 6.5 or 9:13 pace w/400 recovery at 5.2mph or 11:32 pace.

Wednesday - 600m swim during lunch of 200m free, 200m breast and 200m back. Loved being in the water again.

Thursday - 4 mile run with B in the jogging stroller and Meg alongside me on the bike. Meg has mastered the perfect "mom is running" speed on her bike!

Friday- the elevens, 100 crunches, side planks w/weights, squats and fire hydrants

Saturday - Farmer's market, gallucci's, eye doctor appt for Meg and other time consuming errands. In other words, no workouts.

Sunday-18 miles. Good run with great company (Meg), but cold and windy staying in the high 40s.  I actually got my hydration and fuel issues figured out. I will test it again in 2 weeks when I have a 20 miler on the agenda.

Getting excited for the Cleveland Half next week and hoping to PR in my own backyard!

Good luck to Karen on her 100 Miles to Nowhere!

Week in Review: 3/15-3/21

Pretty happy with this week, except I didn't make it to yoga. I'll have to make up for that next week! And I will definitely need to treat myself to a yoga session after the Fools 25k next Sunday!

Monday - 8 mile run at a very dark 6am with puppy as my bodyguard.

Tuesday - strength/cross training. 3 sets of 20 box jumps and kettleball swings (20# weight), followed by 4 sets of 10 of stork lifts and reverse arm curls using 10# weights, then 1600m row in 7:44 during lunch. Added a 4 mile run in the evening with B in jogging stroller & Meg on her bike (hit Mitchell's afterwards).

Wednesday - just did "the elevens" in 5:23.

Thursday - 3 mile tempo run at lunch at 5.8, 6.0 and 6.2 mph. One hour spin class in the evening to kick my butt!

Fridays - rest.

Saturday - morning long run with puppy - 10 miles in 1:48! Watched a fantastic DVD called "It Might Get Loud" - a documentary featuring Jimmy Page, the Edge and Jack White. Don't want to spoil it for you, but we loved it. Ok, I lied, Spoiler alert: the Edge sings on it! Be still my beating heart!

Sunday - no running, but did 3 hours of hard-ass yard work. That's DEFINITELY counting as cross training!

Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend!
