Running in the Rain

The weather forecast here in Northern Ohio is calling for wet, wet, and more wet. As long as I can have this lovely visual of Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong running in the rain, I will have more bounce in my mudpuddle step. Running in the rain, baby!

It's a Matter of Time Before I Have Webbed Feet

My husband keeps trying to assure me that EVERYONE in the Midwest is dealing with rain right now. Whatever. I am dealing with rain. Cleveland is dealing with rain and, if evolution holds true, I will acquire the webbed feet as survival!

Last night, I cut the grass while it was sprinkling. Sprinkling is the closest I'm going to get to a dry, sunny day and when the grass starts tickling your calves, it's time to intervene. Bridget splashed around in puddles and I cross trained by pushing a lawn mower through heavy wet grass. Fun times had by all.

But a funny thing happened. It stopped raining at exactly 8:43pm. I ran inside, laced up my sneakers, leashed up the dog and bolted for a quick 3-miler. And it was my turn to splash through all the sidewalk puddles!

The Wonders of Dry Shoes and Dry Socks!

I had a 20-miler on this morning's agenda with a 10-miler scheduled for tomorrow. So it wasn't like I could just postpone my run hoping that tomorrow's forecast would be better. I dressed accordingly with my windbreaker (uhm, it wasn't waterproof I learned) and headed out the door. Here's the best part: I only wore the windbreaker to provide protection for my iPhone. I didn't care if I got wet, but I was going to treat my phone with care! Anyway, I hovered under a tree for cover and texted Meg to bring me dry socks and shoes. She showed up at mile 11 and I couldn't believe the difference! I was so cold and wet, but with dry shoes and socks I had enough energy to finish out the remaining 9 miles. And the bold cup of coffee at Erie Island was the perfect way to warm me up, plus it was wonderful sharing a cup of coffee with my not-so-little, almost 17-year-old pumpkin.
