Turkey Trot - Are You Registered?

This may be one of the most exciting races for me.  I first raced in 2003, my first year in Cleveland.  This year will be my 11th! Holy crap, I've been in Cleveland for 11 years...how is that possible?

I usually race the 5-mile distance, but downsized to the 1-mile fun run while pregnant with B.  A couple years in between, the girls, Greg and I have walked, jogged, and ran the 1-mile fun run together.  But this year, I'll go back to the 5-mile distance solo.  I don't think I'll best my time of 47:52 from 2011, but I'll damn well try.

So don't be a couch potato.  Get out there and run on Thanksgiving! It's my way of justifying the debauchery of food that will follow.

Happy New Year!

Here's to a wonderful 2013 ****

Last year, Pumpkin and I rung in the new year with our first ever Polar Bear Plunge sponsored by the Cleveland Triathlon Club. And this year, well...no Polar Bear Bear Plunge for us! The Lake Erie water temps were hovering in the low 40s, which is even cold for our neck of the woods this time of the year. So we passed - phew! I don't know who felt more relieved - Megan or me?!

Am I pondering any resolutions for this year? Nope. Except, I do hope to beat Megan in all the Dance series on xBox Kinect. At least that's my goal.

Borrowing from Karen's challenge two or three years ago, I am going to make a serious attempt to blog more, maybe even every day. I've laid out a template to follow for January - let's hope I can keep it up in February. I am a bit like Doug in Up! The mention of squirrel and I change subjects, losing all concentration. But I do like chronicling little stories about my daughters as well as the ups and downs of training for races, running, biking and even swimming (which I seriously would like to do more!).

Cheers to a happy and fit new year to you and yours!

What a Wonderful Day

We had the BEST Christmas so far in our little family. We slept till about 8:00 a.m. (a luxury around here!), woke Bridget up to see if Santa had visited, gave Meg a cup of coffee to get through such an early morning hour, then we each took turns opening gifts from Santa and from each other. We sat in a little drum circle, if you will, just enjoying the peace and quiet and the morning with each other. It was truly wonderfuly.

Bridget got her big item of an Easy Bake Oven, a right of passage for every little girl. Seriously, didn't you have one? She also opened up a Justin Bieber DVD, a One Direction book and an American Girl Doll (the one from Target - shhh!). We laughed that I loved Donny Osmond and Shawn Cassady in kindergarten, Meg loved the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, and now Bridget is into JB and One Direction. Funny how times change, yet they stay the same.

Megan enjoyed a Michael Kors watch that she had really been loving and hoping Santa would bring to her. She also wrapped herself up in a faux fur vest and pink flamingo slippers - yep, Project Runway here folks!

Greg loved his Moscow Mule started kit, new luggage with a weekend trip (yay!), and a snowglobe from Bridget from the school Christmas fair. It was perfect.

I felt truly blessed. I had my amazing family around me and even received something from my favorite designer - yes, Under Armour! Greg got me the cutest hot pink thermal hoodie. Best of all, all of us, including the dogs, enjoyed a nice little hike today to burn off a small fraction of the calories we've ingested. Christmas Ale, cookies, and holiday baking can seriously damage a girl's willpower!

Hope your Christmas or holiday celebration was surrounded by family and friends.

24 Days of Christmas - Week Two

The girls have enjoyed FaceTime and Skype as they open each other's gifts. We've had to improvise, but it's still been good family fun!

Day 7 - Family Pizza and Movie Night
Day 8 - 8 mini Reese cups for day 8
Day 9 - Color a wooden ornament
Day 10 - Write a letter to Santa
Day 11 - Donate toy and book at Church toy drive
Day 12 - Reese pieces candy cane (to be used as a microphone) so the girls could interview each other.
Day 13 - holiday sparkle headbands (from the dollar store)

And on Day 14, I got to bring Megan home from Miami!

Holiday Interview with My Girls

One of my favorite bloggers interviewed her friend, asking several holiday/winter-related questions. I thought what a great idea and a neat way to journal from year to year about what my girls enjoy about the holiday season.

If you could go anywhere this winter where would you go?Meg: Rockefeller Center to go ice skating.
Bridget: To go ice skating with Megan.

What is your favorite holiday food treat?Megan: peanut butter/reese cups thumbprint cookies.
Bridget: candy canes and lots of them.

What gift are you asking Santa for this holiday season?Megan: to get into Miami University and endless Q'doba meals.
Bridget: Rapunzel baby and the Soothing Spa.

What is your favorite holiday tradition or thing to do?Megan: going to Arlo's house on Christmas Eve.
Bridget: going to the town tree lighting and seeing Santa.

I can't wait to ask these same questions next year!
